Hello and welcome to today’s blog! I like to make dishcloths and washcloths. I’d have to say they are some of my favorite projects. Not only do they work up quickly and make good gifts, but I use them to try out new stitches and patterns I find, sort of like mini blankets.

Today I’m sharing a few of my favorite dishcloth patterns. I like to use Premier Home Cotton/Poly yarn instead of pure cotton yarn. I have had the worst luck with 100 percent cotton yarn. It fades, and I don’t know what my washer does to it, but the dishcloths I’ve made with it get holes in them and fall apart.

I also like the feel of the cotton/poly blend. It is easy to work with, the projects I make with it are nice and soft, it absorbs water as well as cotton yarn, and the colors stay bright and vibrant. But these patterns are suitable for 100 percent cotton yarn, too.

Feel free to switch up the colors, I’m just using what I have on hand. That is another reason I like making dishcloths and washcloths, they are a great way to use up some of my stash. You can sell any of the items you make with the patterns I share on this blog. The only thing I ask is that if you want to share the pattern, please share the link to the blog instead of copying and pasting it.

The stitches I used in these patterns are basic stitches. If you need to learn how to crochet or need a refresher, check out Crochet Tutorial #1 – Basic Crochet Stitches.

Grit Stitch Dishcloth

The grit stitch creates a nubby texture which is perfect for dishcloths and washcloths. It is a combination of single and double crochet stitches. The stitches alternate from single to double. When you come back across the row the single crochet stitches are worked into the double stitches of the previous row, and the double crochet stitches are worked into the single crochet stitches of the previous row. This is what creates the lovely texture.

Rick Rack Dishcloth

When I was a little girl my mom made a lot of my clothes. Back in the day (yes I’m old as dirt) rick rack was used as an embellishment and this dishcloth pattern reminds me of the rick rack my mom used. The pattern is composed of V stitches. A V stitch is a double crochet, chain 1, double crochet all worked in the same stitch.

 Crochet Chevron Dishcloth

The chevron pattern is one of my favorites. I like the nice sharp peaks and valleys the pattern forms. To form the valleys 3 stiches are crocheted as 1. To form the peaks 3 stitches are worked into 1 stitch.

3 Crochet Scrubbies

One of the things I like about hand crocheted bath items is they are thicker than store bought. These three scrubbies are the perfect size for cleansing your face or washing up baby. This is another great stash busting pattern.
